History

"The FLeezer" (the 6/22/95 Finger Lakes “Tweezer”) included the first signs of The Who’s “My Generation,” including several teases and a bit of the lyrics – but the hint was missed. Phish didn’t play more of the song until the Halloween encore later that year, after surprising the audience with  Quadrophenia (in its entirety) as their second set “musical costume.” The sole appearance of the song was followed with ritual destruction of a drum set and a large backstage explosion. (The Who routinely loaded the drum set with powder for a show-ending bang; Townshend reportedly got tinnitus of the ear when the powder was overloaded for a performance on The Smothers Brothers Show.)
