Review by blazeon46

blazeon46 An absolutely magical experience for me. The Met looked gorgeous, the lights dazzled, and the band performed a group of songs that, for the most part, went directly into my wiring and have been reinforced through repeated listening the last week of the shows that have followed. Beyond the music, which I love but which some may not, if you don't pay attention, you may miss that Trey has written some of the most poignant lyrics of his career. There is a decidedly different feel to these songs than say, Soul Planet or Rise Up. They are the kind of lyrics that can only come from experiencing grief. John Lennon was 20 when he wrote "In My Life". I don't think he could have found those words if he hadn't lost his mother when he was little. The GOTF lyrics are devastating, haunting, beautiful, and hopeful at the same time. The songs are dealing with loss, but like he did last year when he let us know death don't hurt very long, again Trey finds a way to paint a picture that isn't so frightening. "Don't know if there's even gonna be a tomorrow, but we're all here tonight so let's set it all free...And in the end, we will all be light..." he sings on Stumble Into Flight, the grooviest song about kicking it I can think of. But he also reminds us to be in the moment. "Feel the sun...in long lines..." When you think about how close he came to his own demise (or causing someone else's) in 2006, I don't know how it can't warm your heart to see the smile on his face the last few weeks as he finds welcoming audiences in these gorgeous theaters blindly welcoming this new music. I think it will go down as a personal zenith for him when all is said and done. I truly love hearing from those of you who are on a similar ride right now.

Review by RoanJivers

RoanJivers This show stands out as one of the best shows I've ever seen. I went in completely blind minus listening to Ghosts of the Forest when they released the single. Wasn't sure what was going to be played and was kind of hoping to hear a Phish or TAB song played. So glad they didn't though. I've never gone to a show where I felt so connected to the band and what was going on onstage. Everyone behind me could have left and I wouldn't have known. You could feel the rollercoaster ride of grief through the whole show. Sadness, depression, hope, joy, etc.. I felt it all.

I'd also like to add that this venue was amazing. The staff was so receptive to the fan base. At one point someone asked the security guard up against the stage if he cared that we dance in the aisle. His response was perfect, This is a Phish show. Of course you can dance in the aisle.

Overall, great experience

Review by SFuzzy

SFuzzy I wish I could go back to this show with different expectations. I was closer to Trey and Fish than I've ever been, and waiting for them to rip my face off for the whole show. The show never hit a Phish-force jam, which I should've expected. The whole time I felt like Trey and Fish were holding back and never really hitting a stride.

I read the Rolling Stone article/interview with Trey after the concert. Finding out how the whole album/tour is a tribute to Trey's late friend really put the experience into perspective for me. The whole energy of the room made more sense. Looking back, I wish everyone stayed seated instead of flooding the rows of the orchestra aisles like they were stubbing down to pav at a summer show. If I knew that it wouldn't be a show to dance at, and instead just a show to listen to what Trey was offering, I think I would've had a better time. Unfortunately, I went into the show expecting TAB + Fish and felt blueballed at the end of it.

Listening back, great show, great (authentic) experience. I just wish I read up on the project beforehand.
