Review by BurningShoreProphet

BurningShoreProphet seems almost criminal that this show sits here with a pedestrian 3.4 rating.

Front and center, the classic triumvirate warhorse Mikes>H^2>Groove stretches out for THIRTY glorious minutes before winding down into a nice juxtaposition of Lawn Boy > BBFCFM and Kung... other highlights include a smokin midset Chalkdust > a soaring 13 minute Theme in set 1.

this show is a keeper

Review by ADAWGWYO

ADAWGWYO This tour I was trying to catch every run I could that was A) within a days driving distance from college in Laramie, WY; and B) weekend oriented. So i did the 10/6-10/8 run, came home for school. Almost did the 2 Austin shows the following weekend but decided was just a little to long of a drive, and probably needed to attend some classes as I already had 10/19-10/21 tix.

So rolled out of Laramie after class Wed. And drove straight through across I-80 and down into K.C. early in the morning. I still remember being 2 hours out or so as the sun was coming up over the horizon and it was the most beautiful deep red.

Can't remember much until my crew is in the lot, drinking beers, puffin and priming for the show. I remember thinking it was sweet that the GD had played at all three venues I was about to rock over the next 3 days. Municipal Aud is in the heart of K.C. and I remember it not being a very good part of town. Also, lots of chicken joints in K.C. fyi. :)

This was my 7th show as I had jumped in head first after my first show 4 months prior. They opened with Punch and when it went into The Landlady section I remember punching the taper in the arm next to me and saying "Landlady, Landlady!!" And he was like "They always do this.". Oops. Oh well. Kung started and I was so high and confused that the whole "Stand up, Stand up..." part really threw me off. I stood up and was like, what do we do know? Ha, funny now that I think back about it.

Don't remember much else about the show really. This was my least favorite of the 3 that particular run although it was one of my best friends @pmac024) first show. Oh, also i met a good taper buddy of mine there, John C., that always flew a rubber chicken between his mics. It was easy to tell if he was at a show, you just looked for the flying chicken. Seats in the upper deck were red, I believe. :) Peace

Review by OrangeSox

OrangeSox Adding another positive review to this one... First, thanks @BurningShoreProphet for the videos, what a definite enhancement of the experience twenty years later!!!

The first set is no slouch, featuring a well refined CTB, road tested by this point in its introductory tour. The Runaway Jim delivers a nice dark and well wound solo by Trey that makes a Horn a nicely placed moment of pacing to set up a great run in PYITE>Esther>Chalkdust that hardly pauses for a gasp at any point, each particularly well handled this night, the Chalkdust especially has some mustard. Theme's wall of sound ending is not as pronounced as other versions from this tour and Acoustic Army is just that, but Split Open and Melt returns the set to pounding, this is a solid version and well placed in the set. Billy Breathes was getting a lot of attention but could've been omitted and just let the Cavern close the set out.

The second set starts with an instrumental like the first, this time an always welcome Frankenstein. Poor Heart holds its place before Mike's Groove makes its mark as the centerpiece of this set, and it DOES deliver. The Mike's Song has several phases, each punctuated by Trey's work with his loops and mini-kit, and provides a really healthy peek into what made Mike's such a benchmark of 95. The Weekapaug is the highlight of the set and show and needs to be heard by any fan of the tune., no doubt about it. Lawn Boy has its best placement that i can think of at the moment, coming smoothly from the fragments of the Weekapaug explosion and setting up a raging BBFCFM whose move into Kung is welcome and smoothly handled. The Suspicious Minds that pops out of it is unexpected and perfect, some of the best Zero Man and wonderful to watch. Possum closes out the set with a full head of steam, barely a moment to break in this set, which is easily one of the best by this point in the Fall 95 tour. The momentum was in full swing by this point toward one of the greatest months in Phish history...

Review by BurningShoreProphet

BurningShoreProphet Upon further review, the above mentioned 13 minute Theme From The Bottom's track timing includes the beanie-clad Trey doing a "chess game" info-rap as they set up for Acoustic Army. He tells the crowd that they are losing andto go to the Greenpeace table at intermission to get their move together. Pretty funny

Also, Split Open and Melt and Possum are both standout versions i meant to mention above.

The whole show has that bounce you want. highly recc'd

SET 1: Cars Trucks Buses, Runaway Jim, Horn, Punch You in the Eye > Esther: Standard – Killer set of tunes to open up this show >

Chalk Dust Torture: Trey has some cool riffs in between verses. This version rips! Definitely check it out.

Theme From the Bottom: Standard:

Acoustic Army: Humorous banter about the chess match. Trey plays a clip of newborn (2 months old) Eliza crying. Crowd goes crazy.

Split Open and Melt: Pretty solid, never deviates much from its true self but the jam is welcome in a set that does not have much in the way of jamming.

Billy Breathes, Cavern: Standard.

First set summary: Solid set of Phish anchored by a nice Chalkdust, Theme and SOAMelt.

SET 2: Frankenstein, Poor Heart: Crazy energy out of the gates but its feeling like much of the rest of the tour played to this point where it’s going to be two. But that’s about to change… >

Mike's Song: Ladies and Gentlemen – hold on to your hats – Some of the best of Fall 95 is about to rip your face off. This Mike’s first jam gets kicked off with the most subtle loop in the early 3’s. Trey jumps on his percussion rack right after this – he is in attack mode quickly. By the early 5’s Mike is starting to take the lead in this jam. Once Trey gets back on his axe, they are creating a big wall of sound laden with effects. Trey goes back to the rack after a couple minutes and the 4 headed monster appears as Page becomes very prominent laying down some funk. 30 seconds of some heavy metal lead perfectly into the second jam. Mike is really popping, and they Trey and Mike soon hook up for some nice runs with Trey high up on the neck. They get deep, very deep in the pocket. This is just a killer Mike’s jam… > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove: Another big wall of sound early in this jam and then around six minutes it sounds like Trey is going for Llama, this goes on for a bit. This dwindled and Fishman truly goes beast mode and leads the band while Trey lays down these creepy power chords, followed by some searing loops. Trey deftly leads the band into space, gives Page the signal…Page messes with Keyboard Army…Trey tells Page its time for him to croon away… >

Lawn Boy: > Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, Kung > Suspicious Minds > Hold Your Head Up, Possum ENCORE: A Day in the Life: Standard

Second set summary: Mike’s borders on an all timer (yes, it’s that good) and Weekapaug is a no brainer all timer. Frankenstein to open – you knew it was on, tons of Phishy antics (BBFCM, Kung, SM, all fall down in Possum) all indicate the band was locked in AND having a great time. I can’t quite rate this show as high as 10.11.95, it’s not nearly as good. But it is better than Spokane. I am rating this as a 4.2 out of 5.

Review by A_Buddhist_Prodigy

A_Buddhist_Prodigy Thanks @BurningShoreProphet for posting the video for this! This was my first show and the boys left my jaw on the ground from the start. I always remembered the Jim and PYITE (can't forget your first). But the Mike Groove was indeed great. I remember being flabbergasted by their energy and chops. When they encored with A Day in the Life, I was hooked for life. It's so nice to have video of your first show.

Review by Penn42

Penn42 This show is pretty boring. In fact, the most redeeming feature is that there is decent quality video of the whole thing on youtube, which is pretty awesome considering the personal camcorder was hardly even a thing in 1995.

First set is unremarkable. Not a huge fan of Acoustic Army and there isn't anything particularly stand-out. Having Punch, Esther, and Billy Breathes all in the same set is nice, though. Those are all great semi-rare songs.

Second set is remarkable for an absolutely terrible Mike's Song. This Mike's Song takes the fast train to nowhere for 14 minutes and is one of the least satisfying pieces of Phish I have ever heard. Weekapaug is better, but not redeeming. The Lawn Boy > etc. etc. > HYHU run is a fun fifteen minutes. Possum is cookie-cutter. However, it is really nice to have an All Fall Down signal on video! Oh, and Frankenstein and Poor Heart are slop-town to the max.

I apologize for being such a Negative-Nathaniel guys, but this show really frosted my balls. Next time I'll review a better show and thus write a more positive review, promise!
