The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Review by Thecradle
I heard about them from friends up north and I had talked them up to anybody who'd listen based on what I had been told. Unfortunately, I was unable to get there until what was most likely the beginning of the second set. It was $5 at the door.
Never having heard even a single note on tape, details of what they actually played are vague. The old Cat's Cradle was not huge, but it looked big that night because it was so empty. Maybe 20-30 people tops. I walked in during Contact. I was immediately approached by an acquaintance I had talked the show up to. I remember this conversation like it was yesterday.
Me "So how is it?".
Him "Man, they are all over the place, it's some crazy sh*t."
Me "Sorry"
Him "What are you talking about, their the best band I've ever seen."
Trey took a moment between songs to thank me for coming out. I probably caught 8 songs, no idea at the time what they were but of course I was completely blown away. They definitely finished with Good Times Bad Times. I got a chance to talk to Mike waiting for the restroom before the encore and he too thanked me for being there.
The next time they came through town in June word had gotten out and the Cradle was pretty full, and by October when they made their third appearance of the year it was jam packed.
My first show, even if details are murky, so I have to give it 5 stars.
